“For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.”

In this text, Paul pictured a theoretical woman who was previously married to Mr. Law but following his death, she remarries Mr. Love. Despite what her expectations may be, she learns that Mr. Love doesn’t ask less of her. He actually requires more. But do you know what she discovers? Everything Mr. Love tells her to do, he turns around and does it with her or for her. He guides her and gives her everything she needs for what he’s asked. Every demand of God upon your life is a demand on the Holy Spirit of Christ who lives in you. The reality is that on your own, you can't do it. Once we have recognized this reality, we can ask with Paul, “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?” (Romans 7:24). When we do, we receive a clear answer, “I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:25).
Take some time today to write out an example from your life in which God led you by His Spirit to do something you were unable to do on your own. Consider who you might share this experience with this week.
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
