Are You Yearning for Jesus to Return?

“Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.”

1 John 2:18-19

Ponder This

One time, Joyce and I went to see the Grand Canyon. Now, I was not at the edge of the Grand Canyon when we drove toward it a hundred miles away. While we were at the rim, we were not headed toward it—we were right on the very edge. We could’ve walked miles around it, but we would have continued to be on the edge.

Similarly, we’re not moving toward the Last Days; we’re living on the edge of the Last Days. The Second Coming of Jesus Christ is imminent. There is no sign we’re waiting for. There is no event in history we’re waiting for. Jesus Christ could have come back three weeks after He ascended into Heaven. And He may come back today. The Bible teaches that we’re on the very edge, on the very brink, and therefore we should be yearning and not yawning. We should be ready for the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • What are some things you would change in your life if you knew Jesus was coming back next month?
  • Why is it important to know Jesus’ return is imminent?

Practice This

Consider things you would change if you knew the exact time of Jesus’ return. Ask God for help to change those things in your life now.

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
