Can Evil Be Restrained?

“The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”

2 Thessalonians 2:9-10

Ponder This

What is the Church? The Church is salt and light. What does salt do? Salt purifies. Salt preserves. Salt decontaminates. It also stings and irritates. We are the salt of the earth, and when that salt is taken out, decay will begin. We are the light of the world. When that light is taken out, darkness will engulf the globe. And when the Holy Spirit stands aside, Hell will have a holiday.

The people of this world don’t like Bible-believing Christians. They think we’re an impediment. They think we’re odd. They think we’re weird. They think we’re stubborn. They think we’re standing in the way of progress. One of these days, we’ll be gone. And then the Restrainer will no longer be here, and at that time, you might as well try to dam up Niagara Falls with toothpicks to hold back the flood of wickedness and evil that will come upon this world. That time is known in the Bible as the Great Tribulation.

  • How do passages like the one we read today give you urgency to share the Gospel with others?
  • How does thinking of God’s coming judgment give you compassion for others who are far from God today?

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
