Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So, the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!”

We are called to hear the Word of God, believe the Word of God, and obey the Word of God. Following Jesus’ response about His son, the man in this passage obeyed what he was told. He did exactly as Jesus said and went on his way.
Do you know what real faith is? Real faith is belief with legs on it. James said in James 2:26, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” You don’t have strong faith if you do not obey the Word of God. You hear the Word of God, you believe the Word of God, and then you obey the Word of God. Had this man still had only superficial, superstitious faith, he would have still been there, begging Jesus for a sign, a wonder. Instead, he left his request with Jesus. He did exactly what Jesus told him to do, and he believed the Word of God.
Act in the area God has called you to obedience today. Take concrete steps to obey what God has asked of you.
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
