Do You Know About God’s Numerical Symbolism?

“Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.”

Revelation 13:18

Ponder This

God is a God of order and design, and you see that in all of creation. Numerical law is written into the Universe. In astronomy, we can chart the heavens past and future by mathematics. The same is true in chemistry, which is primarily a study of mathematics and numbers. Study biology: just as flowers have a certain number of petals, there is a mathematical arrangement to everything that is biological. For example, there are 46 chromosomes in the cell of a man; there are trillions of cells, but all of them have one number of chromosomes, 46. God does nothing by accident.

God has also provided the symbolism of numbers in the Bible. The study of the spiritual significance of numbers is called Gematria. The use and consistency of numerical symbolism in God’s Word is one of the many supports for the Bible’s divine inspiration.

  • How does the order observable in creation increase our desire to praise our Creator?
  • How does understanding the spiritual significance of numbers help us better understand God’s message in His Word?

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
