Do You See God’s Power?

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

2 Timothy 3:16

Ponder This

The Bible has incredible power. The Bible says of itself in Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, sharper than any twoedged sword” (KJV). The word quick literally means alive. It comes from the Greek word zoion. It’s the word we get our word zoology or zoo from. It speaks of living things. The Bible is quick and powerful. The word powerful comes from the Greek word energes. It’s the word we get our word energy from. And what it literally means is the Bible is alive and it pulsates with power. We read other books, but this one reads us.

In Romans 1:16, Paul said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” The word he used for power there is the Greek word dunamis, the word we get dynamite from. It is the dynamite of God that is in this Book.

  • How have you seen the living power of the Bible work in your life?
  • Where do you currently need the living and active power of God in your life?

Practice This

Make a list of the ways you long to see God’s power currently. Pray over those things, asking God to speak to you as you read His living and powerful Word.

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
