Does Obedience to God Affect Others?

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Psalm 51:10

Ponder This

There are so many people who fall and stumble because of what they saw in someone else’s life. When a giant oak falls in the woods, not only does that oak fall, but it also pulls down all kinds of saplings and other trees with it. What a tragedy this is. How terrible it is for these people to do this.

Others are looking on. Why be good? None of us lives in isolation. You’re the best Christian and the worst Christian that somebody knows. You’re the only Bible that somebody is reading.

There are times when I grow cold in my faith. There are times when the things I do for the Lord Jesus seem to take the place of the Lord Jesus Christ. When that happens, I have to get down on my face before God and give God everything—give God my health, give God my family, give God my reputation, give God everything, and say, “Dear God, if there’s something I haven’t surrendered, I want you to show it to me.” Sign a blank piece of paper and say, “It’s yours, Lord. Fill it in. Whatever it is, O God, I give it all to you.” And He will be faithful to fill you with His light.

  • When have you been distant in your faith? How did things change?
  • Who are some people who don’t know Jesus that may be watching you to discover who He is?

Practice This

Ask God to fill in the blank page and show you what in your life needs to be surrendered to Him.

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
