Every Person is Without Excuse

“Because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.”

Romans 1:19-20

Ponder This

If you have a creation, you have to have a Creator. Today’s text says the Creator is “clearly seen . . . by the things that are made.” When I see a piano that’s finely tuned, I know somebody crafted it. When I see a watch that runs with precision, I know somebody crafted that watch. When I see a building put together in symmetry and balance and purpose, I know there is an architect. And when I see this mighty Universe put together, when I see creation, I say, “There must be a Creator.” When I see order and system, I say, “Intelligence.” That’s the reason the Bible says, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There’s no God’” (Psalm 14:1a).

There is also the inward witness, the conscience. All people on the face of the Earth have these two witnesses: One is the outward, objective witness called creation; the other is the inward, subjective witness called conscience. This is a built-in knowledge of God. God made man to serve Him and to know Him. Until we do, we’re like a round peg in a square hole, out of fellowship.

  • How have you seen evidence of God in creation?
  • Why is it important to remember we are made to serve God?

Practice This

Take a walk in nature and praise God for the outward and inward witness to Him.

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
