“And when He had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray. Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea; and He was alone on the land. Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by. And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, ‘Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.’”

When the Lord Jesus sent the disciples down to the sea and He went up to the mountain, He had a bird’s-eye view. He saw the whole thing. He saw them rowing. He saw the clouds as they began to rumble and boil. He saw the sea as the waves began to rise. He saw it all, and what was He doing up there? He was praying. They may not have known that He had His eye on them, but He did. He saw them toiling and rowing. They didn’t see Him, but He saw them. He never took His eye off them, and He was interceding for them. Are you in the middle of a storm? You can trust that just like Jesus watched over the disciples, He is watching over you.
You are on Jesus’ prayer list. He knows you. You’re not an incident, and you’re not an accident. He doesn’t just love us all. He loves us each individually. He was watching them right in the eye of the storm. He was there. They couldn’t see Him, but He could see them. I am governed by His providence. I am growing by His plan. I am graced by His prayers.
Show someone today the love of God through an act of service or generosity.
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
