Who Knows the Future?

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

2 Timothy 3:16

Ponder This

One reason to believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God is because of the fulfilled prophecy of the Bible. Only God can prophesy. No one else, apart from God, knows the future. The only future we know is the future that God has revealed in His Word. There are many so-called psychics today. Let me ask you a question: If they know the future, how come none of them win the lottery? I read recently where a psychic network went bankrupt. I wonder if they saw it coming. Only God can prophesy.

Now God, in the Bible, has predicted thousands of events that have already come to pass along with other events that will come to pass. Therefore, you can take a child of God, lock him away in a dungeon with only a Bible and a candle, and he will know more about the future than all the “wise people” and the prognosticators of the world who don’t learn from the Word of God.

  • What are some prophecies of the Bible you know have been fulfilled?
  • How does reflecting on these fulfillments build your faith?

Practice This

Make a list of all of the prophecies you know from the Bible. Make notes of those that have already been fulfilled and those that are promised to come.

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
