Why was Jesus’ Humanity Important?

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”

Philippians 2:5-8

Ponder This

Jesus Christ came in human form. It’s as much a heresy to deny the humanity of Jesus as it is to deny the deity of Jesus. He wasn’t all God and no man; He wasn’t all man and no God; He was the God-man. There has never been another like the Lord Jesus Christ. So, remember the humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ. If you deny the humanity of Jesus, you’re denying Christianity. He is an eternal fact, and He is a physical fact. Thank God for Jesus’s humanity. Apart from His humanity, we couldn’t be saved. He became a man to die on the cross, and apart from “the shedding of blood there is no remission” of sins (Hebrews 9:22). Apart from His humanity, we have no example. We can’t follow as an example the God of glory because we’re human, but we can walk as Jesus walked. When Jesus Christ was on this Earth, He did not pull rank on us. Every miracle He did, He did not as God but as man filled with the Holy Spirit. He lived as a man and depended on the same power that we can depend on, day by day and moment by moment.

  • What are some things you have learned from Jesus’ example as a human?
  • How does it feel to know Jesus depended on the same Holy Spirit you have inside of you as His follower?

Practice This

Read multiple passages in the Gospels and write down what you learn from the example of Jesus.

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
