“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Growing up, I played football. I put a lot of expense into football—and I’m not talking about money. I’m talking about blood, sweat, and tears I left on the football field. We won some championships; I got to be the team captain; and we won some awards. But that effort, that sacrifice, only brought rewards that faded or were lost over time.
Here's the treasure that will never fade: souls that come to know Jesus. Let Congress make the laws. Let the president try to run the nation. Let the Hollywood stars have the fame. Let those guys play football. But if you are wise, you will win souls. When you get to the bottom line, Jesus came to Earth because “the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). You can have that same purpose because you follow Him. His way is your way, and His calling is your calling. Come to Jesus and then go tell others. Invest in an eternal treasure.
Pray for people you know who do not know Christ; do something for them to show God’s love.
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
