You Are Made to Live for God

“Then all the Midianites and Amalekites, the people of the East, gathered together; and they crossed over and encamped in the Valley of Jezreel. But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon; then he blew the trumpet, and the Abiezrites gathered behind him. And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh, who also gathered behind him. He also sent messengers to Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.”

Judges 6:33-35

Ponder This

Imagine I wore a coat and said, “You’ve never seen anything like this.” And then I told the coat to raise its arms, but I lifted my arms to wave the coats’ arms. Then I commanded, “Coat, hold up my Bible,” but I lifted my arm to hold up my Bible. You would call me silly or foolish because the coat is not doing anything on its own. The fact that the coat moves is not the coat; it’s the person in the coat. That’s what we see in this passage. It’s not the man, it’s God in the man. That’s what it means when the Bible says, God “came upon Gideon” (Judges 6:34). God was working through Gideon.

It's not your scholarship, it’s your relationship. It’s not your ability, it’s your availability. It’s not your fame, it’s your faith. It’s not who you are, it’s whose you are. First Corinthians 1:26-27 says “For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.” You were made for more than just living your own way. You were made to live for God and to let Him guide you as He did Gideon.

  • What are some ways God has used you for His purposes?
  • What can you do to be ready for God to use you at all times?

Practice This

Ask God to lead you the way He led Gideon.

FOR YOUR GIFT TO THE MINISTRY

What is the mission of the Church?

Love Worth Finding's newest book, "A Final Charge to the Church, "is based on the final series of messages Pastor Rogers preached before retiring in 2005. Pastor Rogers wanted to prepare his congregation for the future. In doing so, he provided a biblically sound blueprint that applies to all Christians on topics including unity among believers, standing strong in opposition to the enemy (Satan), the power of the Holy Spirit to change lives, steadfastness in prayer, true worship, faithfulness to God's Word, caring for others, and the kingdom authority given to believers in Jesus Christ. The book is a great read for all believers who want to become better prepared, as the bride of Christ, to be radiant, pure, and faithful to Jesus, the living Word of God.
