Did you know there is a built-in knowledge of God? St. Augustine said, “The soul of man is restless until it rests in God.” God made man to serve Him and to know Him, and until he does, he’s like a round peg trying to fit into a square hole.
Now, what is an atheist? All atheists are not atheists because of intellectual problems. They are atheists because of moral problems. You may say, “But I know some brilliant people who are atheists.” Well, so do I. I also know some brilliant people who are not. It is not a matter of intelligence.
In Romans 1:22 the Bible says, “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” Why? Because all of us have a God-consciousness; it is not a matter of intellectualism. It is a matter of morality. Psalm 14:1 says, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.” An atheist is somebody who has an idea of God that makes him uncomfortable, so he rationalizes and says, “If I can get rid of this idea of God, I can get rid of this uncomfortable feeling.” And the more he tries to get rid of his uncomfortable feelings, the more it proves that God exists, because deep down in his heart there is that God-consciousness.
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
