In 1917, the bishops of the Orthodox Church in Russia were having a heated debate. Just a few doors down the street the Bolsheviks were meeting to overthrow the Czar and usher in the leadership of Lenin. They were planning and plotting, but over there the bishops were debating.
Now just what was the huge issue over which the bishops were debating? It was whether or not they were going to use eighteen inch candles or twenty-two inch candles. The empire was crumbling down around them and they were debating on the length of a candle!
The devil would rather start a church fuss than sell a barrel of whiskey! God wants us to be together. God wants us to encourage one another, to lift up one another. You and I need to be in a ministry of encouragement. Hebrews 3:13 says, "But exhort one another daily, while it is called today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin."
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
