It is an amazing thing, but I’ve seen it happen now for over five decades as I’ve been preaching the Word of God. People’s lives are radically, dramatically, eternally changed by the Word of God. Isn’t that wonderful?
I’ve found that when you don’t apologize for the Bible but preach the Bible, it goes through the devil’s lies like a white-hot cannonball through a crate of eggs. There is power in the Word of God.
Satan does not want you to understand the authority of the Word of God. But when the Word of the Lord and the Lord of the Word become your authority—and when you stand on the Word of God—Satan and all of his minions will flee, and you are going to have authority for your life.
Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
