Do You Depend on Works?

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

Ephesians 2:8-9

Ponder This

If you were to ask me, “Adrian Rogers, are you saved?” I'd say, “Yes, praise God! I know I am saved!”

But if works have anything to do with my salvation, and you were to ask me, “Adrian Rogers, are you saved?” I'd have to say, “Well, now, let me think. Yes, I believe I'm saved. I prayed today and I studied the Bible. I didn't curse today, and I didn't steal. But …uh-oh…I did lose my temper today. Well, let me see. I hope I'm saved.”

Practice This

If you depend upon works, either a little or a lot, to get you to heaven, then you'll never be able to say, “Praise God, I know that I know that I'm saved.” But you’re not saved by works. You’re saved by grace through faith. It is the gift of God.

FOR YOUR GIFT TO THE MINISTRY

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
