Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." The Hebrew word “way” is a word that is used in the Bible to mean “the bending of a bow." Have you ever seen a bow? It has a natural bend in it.
Let me give you a loose translation. Train up a child in the way that he is bent. You see, all children come into the world with a natural bent. All children are not the same.
If you are a parent, God gave you a special child. In his frame is hidden a one-of-a-kind blend of divine, innate talents and God-given spiritual gifts. It is up to you to train up that child as an individual. Your child is a rare, creative individual with the thumbprint of God upon his life. Your job is to tap into that child with the creative wisdom of God.
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
