For Your Children, Do You Want What God Wants?

“I have no greater joy than to hear that My children walk in truth.”

3 John 1:4

Ponder This

What are the desires that you have for your children? What are you praying for them? Are you praying for their health, their wealth, that they might be famous, or that they might have a life of ease? Even the pagans want healthy, successful children—children who are going to be free from care and worry. Is that what concerns you most about your children?

How many of you would say, “Dear God, what a blessing if You were to call my son into the ministry or my daughter to be a missionary”? Some people think that would be a colossal waste. But the Bible says, “Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. ” (Psalm 127:4-5), and arrows are to be shot at the enemy.

What is your ambition for your children? I want to be like the Apostle John who said in 3 John verse 4, “I have no greater joy than to hear my children walk in the truth.”

Practice This

I’ve told God many times, “I don’t care whether my children are wealthy or successful; I want them to know and love You.” What is your greatest desire for the children in your life? Pray that for them every day. Ask God to bring it to fruition in their lives.

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
