To forgive literally means to release a debt. When we sin, we sin against God, and heaven has sued us for damages. It is a debt that we cannot pay. Praise God that when His forgiveness comes, the debt is canceled.
For example, let’s say you owe me $1,000 and you cannot pay me back. I forgive you for the debt. It costs me $1,000 to forgive that debt. There are no free pardons. Forgiveness costs. The forgivor forgives the forgivee and the forgivor pays the debt. There is no cheap forgivenesses.
When the Lord Jesus Christ forgave us, although our forgiveness was free, there was a price paid. For example, Ephesians 1:7 says, “In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” For God to forgive us, it cost the precious blood of Jesus.
One of God’s greatest gifts to us is forgiveness. Thank God for His grace that forgives us!
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
