If you wanted to get rid of darkness in a room, how would you do it? Would you curse the darkness? Would you take a broomstick and try to beat the darkness out of the room? Would you take a shovel and shovel it out? Would you take a vacuum cleaner and suck it out? How are you going to get the darkness out of a room? There’s no way except one: turn on the light. Just turn on the light; the darkness cannot stand the light.
When Jesus comes, that darkness is going to go. It has to go! And when it goes, everything that loves it will go with it. “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12).
Do you know what comes out at night? Toads, roaches, owls, bats! When the light comes, they scurry away, and the birds begin to sing. What a day it will be when Jesus comes and all of the wicked, vile and filthy things in the spiritual world flee! And we’ll understand!
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
