Matthew 5:8 says, "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." Now what does Jesus mean when He says that? I believe He is addressing the integrity of a person's heart.
The word "heart" in this verse doesn't mean the muscle that pumps the blood. It is talking about the seat of our emotions, the inner person—what I call "master control." Your heart speaks of total commitment.
When people fall in love, they're called—what? Sweet-hearts, not sweet-heads. That's because the heart is the core of the individual that dictates the character, directs the will, and dominates the affections. Proverbs 4:23 says, "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."
If you are going to be pure, my dear friend, you must be pure in heart before you can be pure any other way.
