Manufacturing Misery

"

Ephesians 5:20-21 says, “Giving thanks always for all things unto God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”

There was a preacher on a train one time who looked over and saw a well-dressed man and woman. She wore all kinds of jewelry and diamonds were dripping from her fingers. But she was complaining about everything—the train ride, the weather, the news, the food, and the service.

This preacher decided he would engage this couple in a conversation. He asked the man, “Sir, what is your business and what do you do?” The man told the minister. Then he asked, “Is this your wife?”

“Yes,” the man answered.

“Well, what does she do?”

“Oh, she’s in the manufacturing business.”

“What does she manufacture?”

He replied, “She manufactures her own unhappiness.”

There are a lot of people like that. They manufacture their misery because they fail to be grateful. Are you one?

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
