There is a built-in knowledge of God. Augustine said, "The soul of man is restless until it rests in God." God made man to serve Him and to know Him. Until he does, he is like a round peg in a square hole. He is out of fellowship with His creator.
There are no intellectual atheists. All atheists are not atheists because of intellectual problems. They are atheists because of moral problems.
You say, "But I know some brilliant people who are atheists." Well, so what? I know some brilliant people who are not. You say, "Well, I know some foolish people who believe in God." Well, I know everybody who doesn’t is foolish.
You see, it’s not a matter of intelligence. Romans 1:22-23 says, "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things."
All of us have a God-consciousness. It is not a matter of intellectualism. It is a matter of morality." Psalm 14:1a says, "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God."
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
