First Corinthians 6:18 says, “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” Second Timothy 2:22 says, “Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” You are not told to fight the temptation of the flesh. You are told to flee.
For instance, if there is a magazine, movie, or program on television that arouses things in you that are wrong, you are told to get away from it. Turn off the television. Throw away the magazine. Leave the theater. You can’t put garbage in your mind and expect to stay pure.
When I was in college, I had a motto on my desk that said, “He who would not fall down, ought not to walk in slippery places.” Proverbs 6:27-28 says, “Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?”
If you are single, this is VERY important because if you are do not flee, then you are playing with matches in dry grass. It’s not enough to ask God to keep you pure, you are to flee!
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
