I remember reading about a liberal seminary professor who told his class, "We should never have any enemies or be controversial. There should never be any problems. What we need to do is to follow the example of Jesus." He was preaching the gospel of appeasement.
A seminary student lifted his hand and said, "Professor, if Jesus Christ was so beautifully tactful and diplomatic, how did He manage to get Himself crucified?"
Jesus Christ did not get along with everybody and everybody did not get along with Jesus Christ. Peace is not appeasement. Peace is not truce making. Peace is not even the absence of war. What is peace?
Peace is a right relationship with God, a right relationship, therefore, in your heart, and a right relationship with one another. Peace is a sense of well-being which results from the righteousness of God ruling and reigning in your heart.
Matthew 5:9 says, "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."
