Jesus said, “I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” (John 14:16-17). The Holy Spirit is the abiding possession of every child of God.
Some people have the erroneous idea that after you’re saved, you have an additional experience of receiving the Holy Spirit.
Put it down big, put it down straight. If the Holy Spirit is not in you, you are not saved. There is no such thing as getting saved and later receiving the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:9 says, “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.”
If you don’t have the Holy Spirit of God, you cannot call yourself a Christian because Christ is not in you. The only way that Jesus can be in you is through the Holy Spirit.
