When I was in the sixth grade, I looked over at a little girl named Joyce Louise Gentry, and I wrote her a love note. Then I walked past her and dropped it at her desk. She's now Joyce Louise Rogers. She's my bride and my beloved.
That little note made such an impression on her that she still has it in a little scrapbook. It must have been good! But you know, from that time on she began to take an interest in me. Do you know why she loves me? I first loved her.
Do you know what the Bible is? It is God's love letter to you. It is God saying to you, I have set my eye upon you. I love you! That is what I call "seeking grace." Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
You’re not saved by doing good deeds, joining a church, giving your money, or any type of work. You are saved by the grace of God. God saved you when you put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ who alone has the power to save.
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
