There is nothing sweeter than being part of a church when the joy of the Lord is upon that church. Indeed, there is nothing that makes a church stronger than the joy of the Lord.
Oh yes, there will be mourning. Oh yes, there will be seriousness. But the one thing I want to characterize our church services more than anything else is joy.
Do you know most people are not even worried about going to heaven or hell? They are just longing for some real joy in their lives. Jesus said, “These things have I spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:11).
First Thessalonians 5:16 says, “Rejoice evermore.” Philippians 4:4-5 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.”
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
