The world has a prince, a philosophy, a purpose, and a people. And Christians are to love these people, but we must understand that these people will not love us.
Jesus said, “The children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light” (Luke 16:8). What the Lord said was that we need to wake up and smell the coffee. The devil is doing a better job at destroying the world than the children of God at redeeming the world, because the children of this world are wiser in their generation than the children of light.
Now, if you like the world, you’re not going to have any trouble. But when you come out from the world, then you’re going to have trouble. Christians are twice-born people in a world of once-born people. And when you live for Jesus, you’re going to be going against the tide all the time.
The world is going to think you are not only weird, but you are also their enemy. But Jesus said that’s all right. A friend of this world is an enemy of God.
"I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
