Over and over again people ask, “If there is a God, why is there so much suffering?” They begin to think, Well, maybe He has the power to remove suffering, but He really doesn’t care.
Or they think, Maybe He really does care and want to remove the suffering, but He doesn’t have the power.
Or, maybe there’s no God at all.
Why all this suffering? It’s our pain and sorrow that keeps us from being so independent. You see, the Bible speaks of the body of Christ. First Corinthians 12:26 says, “And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it.”
You see, the universe has a disease, and God cannot remove the pain until the last vestige of sin is gone. The worst thing that could happen to human beings would be for us to live in a world cursed by sin, and yet the world seem to be a paradise. We would never come to God.
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
