What Are You Holding on to?

“…and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.”

2 Timothy 2:26

Ponder This

I’ve heard it told that in the South Sea islands, they catch monkeys by taking a coconut, making a hole in the top, and putting a handful of rice in. A monkey will reach his paw in, take the rice; but then his fist is bigger than the hole, and he can’t withdraw it. Now, when the captor comes, the monkey will scream and plead; but he’ll never let go of the rice.

You say, “Foolish monkey!” Yet are you a foolish person who will not relinquish the sin you’re clinging to, that you might have the blessings of God? Foolish person, taken captive by Satan, who will not have power with God because of some handful of rice—some sin, some habit, some grudge—that you hold onto.

Practice This

What sin is holding you captive? Let go of it. Relinquish the sin you’re clinging to.

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
