When You Walk Through the Valley of Death

“For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling”

Psalm 116:8

Ponder This

A minister spends a lot of time visiting hospitals and going to funerals. I've been with those who are dying and those who are facing heartaches. I’ve watched those who know the Lord Jesus Christ, and I’ve seen a difference in those who know Christ and those who don’t.

I spent some time in the hospital with a man who, in just a few hours, would step over on the other side. I held his hand. We prayed. I asked, "Is everything right between you and the Lord?" He said, "Pastor, everything is right. I'm ready. For me to live is Christ and for me to die is gain."

He had the assurance of one who knew God would “never, no never” leave nor forsake him (Hebrews 13:5).

Practice This

What would it take for you to have that assurance? Do you have it now? Then thank God for it. If you don’t, have you given your heart fully to the Lord Jesus Christ? “F-A-I-T-H” means Forsaking All, I Trust Him.” Trust Him fully today, and He will come to dwell within.

Front Porch Moments by Gayle Foster

WITH KEY INSIGHTS FROM HER FATHER, ADRIAN ROGERS

I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.

Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
