A little girl heard the choir singing that song “God Is Still on the Throne.” She didn’t understand it quite correctly and told someone they were singing “God is still on the phone.” Well, He is! Thankfully, there’s a heavenly hotline where you and I can talk with the One who scooped out the seas, heaped up the mountains, and flung out the stars.
Prayer—that you and I can talk with God—is the greatest Christian privilege. The omnipotent God has invited us to talk with Him, and He answers our prayers. There is no possible way I could overstate the importance of prayer.
Prayer is not only our greatest privilege, it’s our greatest power. But it’s also the Christian’s greatest failure. We have not because we ask not. May God forgive us. I pray that you will never underestimate the importance of prayer.
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
