When I was a boy, I was working to make money for my clothes. One day I went to a cheap store and bought a pullover shirt I thought was beautiful. I could not believe the price. It looked so good until Mama put it in the washer. It just disintegrated. Now, it seemed like a bargain, but it had no durability.
What about your soul? Have you ever thought about the worth of your soul or how long your soul will last? You are made in the image of God. You can no more cease to exist than God Himself will cease to exist. Daniel 12:2-3 says, “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.”
Your soul will be in existence either in heaven or in hell. Your soul will live forever. There was a time when you were not. There never will be a time when you will not be. I am telling you, you need to think about eternity when you think about your soul. First Peter 1:18-19 says, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
I try to unplug each morning with Jesus with just my rocking chair, my Bible, and a pen.
Having a secret place is very important because I know that Jesus is always there waiting for me. I know where I can find Him! His presence is everywhere, but there are places where it is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You may not even have a front porch, but there is a secret place for you as well. God’s invitations are for anyone who will respond. There is no more important request than the one found in Psalm 27:8: “My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
