The use of evergreen trees, wreaths, and garlands to symbolize eternal life was a custom of the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, and Hebrews.
This custom was adapted by Christians to celebrate the birth of the Son of God who makes eternal life possible. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
Whether your Christmas tree is artificial, a real evergreen cut at a Christmas tree farm, or a living tree in a pot you expect to replant, and whether it is a spruce, a fir, a pine, or a cedar, may its green needles remind you of eternal life with God that begins the moment you accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
May it remind you also of the world God so loves so that you are ever reaching out to share your Savior with others.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).
