Dressed Up to Stay In

While some families get so busy with their own traditions they forget to reach out to others, some families get so caught up in school, work, and community Christmas festivities, they forget to prioritize one another.

Why not set aside one or more evenings during the holiday season to do nothing but hang out on the couch together in matching pajamas?

As important as everyone else is, God’s plan for marriage—established in the Book of Genesis and impossible to improve upon—is to leave and cleave, hold onto one's spouse, and nurture the nuclear family.

Consider assembling a basket with pajamas for everyone, a new Christmas book or two, some snacks, and some new games, and bringing it out just after Thanksgiving. Mark the calendar for some special nights at home and don’t let anything interfere. (NOTE: Such a basket would make a great gift from older parents to their children and their families.)

Protect your family time!

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24).

“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him” (Psalm 103:13 ESV).

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!” (Psalm 127:3-5a).

“And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers” (Malachi 4:6a).
