ARE THE BEATITUDES NICE CHRISTIAN SAYINGS OR TRUTHS FROM THE WORD OF GOD?

Jesus talked about the difference between building a house on a rock and building it on sand. (See Matthew 7:24-27.) If you build your house on the rock, it will stand, even in the midst of a storm. If you build your house on the sand, it will fall apart under pressure. That’s what we see all around us in our communities and even in our own homes. We are falling apart because we have been chasing happiness and building our lives on things that won’t last. 

In Matthew 5, Jesus Christ gave us the Beatitudes. They’re not platitudes and nice Christian sayings. Rather, they are the Word of God and the truths that we need to build our lives upon as Christians. They tell us what it means to have Christian character, and it’s quite different from what the world says.
