How can a Christian deal with anxiety and depression? First, you need to know that you are not alone in how you feel and that God sees you right where you are. One of the names for God in the Bible is El Roi, which means the God who sees. “The eyes of the Lord are in every place…” (Proverbs 15:3a). The next thing you need to understand is how God views you. Here are three important ways God looks at you:
“For God so loved the world (you) that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
“But God demonstrates His own love towards us (you), in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
“You were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you” (Isaiah 43:4a).
“Do not fear, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:31).
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, his own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy” (1 Peter 2:9-10).
Now that you know God loves you just as you are, considers you of great worth, and claims you as His own, begin to pray and thank Him for that every day. If you don’t have a good church home, find one and join a small group. We are meant to do life together with Jesus! As you seek out the Lord and pray, peace will come; Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God; and the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
