For you to know His presence in a real and personal way is a part of His will. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 4:3a, “For this is the will of God, your sanctification:” It is within the process of sanctification—the Father making us like His Son—that we experience His very presence. When we choose to connect with God in all three facets of how He created us—spirit, soul, and body—the understanding of His personal presence becomes increasingly real to us.
When we choose to pray and connect spiritually with the Father, we get the presence of His attention. He listens to us. Think about that. There could be a million people praying all around the world at the same time, yet He listens to you as if you were the only one speaking. And if we will be still and listen, He will also speak to us—responding to our joy, our praise, and our requests in a personal way.
When we choose to engage with Him in His Word, connecting mentally with the Father, we get the presence of His apprenticeship. He will use His Spirit to teach us, to mold and shape us into the image of His Son. He will personally oversee our training and give us wisdom and understanding that goes beyond the education of man.
Lastly, as we connect with the Father physically through acts of worship and service, we get the presence of His attributes. He anoints us and fills us with His love and His compassion toward others as we serve those in need. He gives us His eyes to see a heart in need of encouragement, eyes that see beyond the outward appearance into a soul who needs a Savior. And when we come to worship Him, He gives us His joy and His peace to enhance our praise.
