We abide in Christ by connecting with Him in each facet of our being. We were created as spirit, soul, and body. Therefore, we must daily connect with the Lord spiritually through prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17), interceding for others more than for ourselves. We must connect mentally through study, meditation, and memorization of His Word (2 Timothy 2:15), and we must connect physically through acts of worship and service (Hebrews 10:24-25). As we connect with the Lord completely (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24) and pursue holiness (Leviticus 19:2; Matthew 5:48), we then place ourselves in a position for the Lord to use us in fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). When the Great Commission says, “Go therefore,” it is saying to us “as we are going.” So, as we connect with the Lord, abiding in Him daily in the pursuit of holiness, we look to make disciples. Notice that it does not say we are to make converts. Our job is not just to share our faith with others but also to take them under our wing and teach them how to live out the Christian life until they are ready to disciple others. Another area of the Great Commission is missionary support (2 Timothy 1:18, Galatians 6:2). We do this in multiple ways, such as going on mission trips, giving to missions, and committing to pray for specific missionaries. So, as we are living out our faith in pursuit of holiness, sharing our faith, discipling others, and supporting missions in one way or another, we are fulfilling the Great Commission and honoring the Savior’s last instructions to us before ascending to the Father. Living out your life this way provides an eternal legacy of blessing!
