Nowhere in the Bible does it say how many wise men visited Jesus. Tradition says three, but that’s based upon the number of gifts that were given to Jesus by the wise men. Whether these wise men, or magi (Greek word magoi rendered as astrologers), were kings or people from the courts of Babylon; whether they were 3 or 300, the Bible does not say. The emphasis that the Bible gives is on Jesus and the fact that wise men came from the East to give Him three gifts, and that they worshiped Him.
“And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary his mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh” (Matthew 2:11).
