What does it mean to have faith and trust in God’s plan?

We must live by faith through Jesus and trust that God’s timing and what He is doing is perfect. We can trust the promises He has made to us in His Word. God has made it clear to us that He is infinitely wiser than we are and that we don’t even begin to think on the same level as He does (see Isaiah 55:8-9). He is El Roi, the God who sees everything (see Proverbs 15:3) so we can trust that He sees and understands what is needed to accomplish the plan He made for us. However, we must stay in tune with Him to get our directions from Him. This can only be accomplished through intimacy with Christ. We must engage daily in prayer and in His Word, and we must walk in obedience, to build our trust and to grow our faith. Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.” That’s why we are told to walk in the Spirit (see Galatians 5:16), to walk in love, to walk in light, and to walk in wisdom (see Ephesians 5:1-17). If we pursue intimacy with Jesus and take steps of faith, we can trust God to direct our steps and lead us where He wants us to go. And get this, even when those who want to do evil to us make plans, He steps in and disrupts their schemes (Job 5:12). We can completely trust God in any and all situations, no matter who stands against us. “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive” (Genesis 50:20). We will face hard times and struggles, but our Sovereign God and Savior is always at work to bring glory to Himself.
