Scripture Passage: Psalm 85:1-6
Psalm 85:4-6 is a prayer for revival.
“Restore us, O God of our salvation, and cause Your anger toward us to cease. Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger to all generations? Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?"
Our founding fathers each embedded their personal faith and a holy fear of God into the foundations of this nation. Yet, our national heritage has been trampled on; our Christian values are in retreat. We are in desperate need of a revival and must pray for the America of tomorrow.
Adrian Rogers says, “The sin of mankind is not an excuse for not having revival. It’s an insult to God to say that we cannot have revival in this time. There’s a God in Heaven, and He is our hope.” God is also our biggest threat. Our personal and national sins anger God, which is why we must repent of them.
In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
It is the people of God whom God is addressing -- those who have been saved and need a fresh encounter with the Holy Spirit. In this passage, God also addresses their pride, which He hates. We need to guard our hearts against pride, for God will oppose us if we’re arrogant. God hears our prayers only after we humble ourselves and repent of our sins. We should seek His approval first, not His provision.
Adrian Rogers says, “God has sent revival in dark days before, and He can do it again. When we are humble and holy, we will be heard.”
True revival begins with a time of weeping over our sins, continues with a time of reaping new believers, and finally, ends in rejoicing.
It’s not too late for a revival in our beloved nation. Humble yourself, confess your sins, and repent. Begin asking God to bless us with a revival, and let it begin with you.
